Ocean Games, Race Director, Corey Davis was interviewed by Jordie Clark of 47 ABC the day of the race. - July 17, 2021

OCEAN CITY, Md. – The 9th annual Ocean Games open water swim was held on Saturday, and swimmers from across the region and beyond came together to not only compete, but bring awareness to brain injuries.

Corey Davis, event organizer and a brain injury survivor tells us, he started the event as a way to exercise and donate money to John’s Hopkins, who helped rehabilitate him after his motorcycle accident. Now he says, he’s thankful for how much the event has grown and so many people want to help his cause.

Davis tells 47 ABC, physical activity helped get him to where he is today, standing, talking, swimming, and many other activities. However, now the games have expanded beyond what he ever thought, and he says he’s happy other people want to help bring awareness as well. “It helps people’s attitude and gives people drive you know, something to look up to,” says Davis. He adds, “It helped me so much at first when they said I’ll always need assisted living, wouldn’t walk. I thought okay, I have to prove them wrong.”

Davis also tells us, Ocean Games provides donation to other charities as well. He says he hopes to continue doing this for years to come, and gather more participants.
